Meet Roy Ballard, freelance videographer with a knack for catching insurance cheats. He's working a routine case, complete with hours of tedious surveillance, when he sees something that shakes him to the core. There, with the subject, is a little blond girl wearing a pink top and denim shorts—the same outfit worn by Tracy Turner, a six-year-old abducted the day before. When the police are skeptical of Ballard's report—and with his history, who can blame them?—it's the beginning of the most important case of his life.

The story moves right along and keeps your attention riveted. Everything was plausible and well done. Will really enjoy reading another by this author.

Nice pace, great character explanations, plenty of clever humor. The plot flows well. Only problem is that now I’m hungry for another Ben Rehder book.!

  • Gone the Next-Roy Ballard #1

By Book 3 in the Cosega Trilogy
Read several of Rehder’s novels, and they have all been very well written, with an interesting plot, a fair amount of action, believable and likable characters, and enough just humor. Plus I love it when I finish a book and the author looks like my mental image of the main character, and I can easily see Rehder in a big green Dodge and a game warden’s uniform, like Marlin from his Blanco County series. Roy Ballard is a divorced legal videographer with an amusingly sarcastic sense of humor and lot of baggage. While on routine surveillance for an insurance company to investigate and capture evidence of fraud, Roy believes he saw a missing kid from yesterday’s Amber Alert. After being dismissed by the police, who don’t see Roy as a credible witness he continues to search for the missing girl, using the tools of his trade.

This was an easy book to read and kept my interest. There was a mix of humor and mystery, and no REAL violence or hot sex which is exactly what I am looking for. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a book to read for entertainment.

Mystery was exciting to read. Author Ben Rehder words reveal how twisted his story’s characters become. Yes, I will now read all of his published books.
